New field study: How long do e-bike batteries actually stay in use?
How long e-bike batteries remain in circulation before reaching recycling has, until now, been little more than an estimate. A field study of nearly 2,000 batteries at ACCUREC-Recycling GmbH in Krefeld now provides empirical data for the first time — and supports the EU Battery Regulation’s assumption of roughly ten years of service life. The article also shows why raw data from a rapidly growing market initially suggests a much shorter lifespan, and what this means for future EU collection targets.
